Awards

Our research work has gained international recognition, as evidenced by the following awards we have received:

  1. Received the 1994 Best Journal Paper Award from the Robotics Society of Japan for the paper: “Motion planning based on local information for two mobile robots amidst unknown environments”, vol. 7, no. 2, pp. 78-87, 1992.
  2. Received the 1998 Best Journal Paper Award from the Robotics Society of Japan for the paper: "Sensor-based parallel processing manipulation system: takumi", vol. 15, no. 3, pp. 363-372, 1997.
  3. Awarded the 3rd place of an outstanding paper of the IEEE First Electro/Information Technology Conference, Chicago, June 8-11, 2000, for the paper: "Real-time haptic feedback in Internet-based telerobotic operation".
  4. Nominated as one of five finalists for the Best Vision Paper for the paper: “Asymptotic motion control of robot manipulators using un-calibrated visual feedback” at the 2001 IEEE Int. Conf. on Robotics and Automation (ICRA), Seoul, Korea, 2001. (There was no winner for the award)
  5. Awarded the Conference Best Paper (1st place) Award at the 2003 IEEE Third Electro/Information Technology for the paper: “Transmission and rendering of supermedia via the Internet”, 2003.
  6. Mr. Lo Wangtai won the 5-th prize award in 2003 Int. Student Experimental Hands-on Project Competition via Internet on Intelligent Mechatronics and Automation, 2003.
  7. A paper co-authored by Mr. Chow Man-kit was one of the five finalists for the Best Student Paper Award for the paper: “Task-coordinated control of multi-robot systems via the Internet” at the 2003 IEEE Int. Conf. on Robotics and Automation.
  8. Paper “Efficient target detection from infrared image sequences using sequential Monte Carlo method” was the finalist for the Best Student Paper Award at the 2006 IEEE Int. Conference on Mechatronics and Automation, 2006.
  9. The co-authored paper “Inertial measurement unit for autonomous helipcotrs using MEMS sensors was the finalist for the Best Conference Paper Award at the 2006 IEEE Int. Conf. on Mechatronics and Automation, 2006.
  10. Miu-ling Lam and Yun-hui Liu, “Active Sensor Network Deployment and Coverage Enhancement using Circle Packings”, awarded the Best Student Paper at ROBIO 2006.
  11. Hesheng Wang and Yun-hui Liu's, "Dynamic Visual Tracking with Eye-in-hand Camera" awarded the Best Student Conference Paper at the 2007 IEEE International Conference on Integration Technology.
