Abstract :

New Media Art is where Art, Science and Technology intersect. The speaker will demonstrate how her engineering and scientific background has equipped her to become a media artist. She will showcase an array of her latest interactive installations and share the process of concept development.

Biography :

Miu Ling Lam is a Los Angeles and Hong Kong based researcher and media artist. She received her PhD in Automation and Computer-Aided Engineering at The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2008 with a focus in robotics and wireless sensor networks. Upon the completion of her PhD program, she was awarded the Croucher Fellowship to pursue scientific research at the University of California Los Angeles, where she redirected her field of study to bioinformatics and physical intelligence, and began her art practice. She has exploited cutting-edge technologies to create artworks in the intersection of art, science and technology. Her artworks have been exhibited in media arts festivals worldwide, including Hong Kong, Shanghai, Columbus and Moscow, and have won awards at the Shanghai International Science & Art Exposition and the 17th ifva Festival. In 2011, she was one of the five artists featured at the Hong Kong Mega Art Event Microwave Invention and Intervention. She has been invited to speak at the Leonardo LASER Lecture Series and the China Academy of Art. More information info at http://miulinglam.com.
